Heating Repair on the Shore of Spirit Lake

Spirit Lake is a small city of about 2,300 people (2020 census) along State Highway 41, on a narrow arm of the northeast shore of Spirit Lake itself, which lies about 16 miles north-northwest of Coeur d'Alene (Spirit Lake city facts). We repair furnaces, heat pumps, wood stove backup systems and central air in town and around the lake, including propane and gas furnace repair, heat pump repair, AC repair for summer and emergency furnace repair in winter.

Wood Heat, Propane and Gas Furnaces in Spirit Lake

Spirit Lake heats differently from the prairie cities. Census figures show about half of homes on gas, about a third on electricity, and about one home in nine heating mainly with wood, the highest share of any town we serve (Spirit Lake heating fuel data). Propane heats a few percent more.

That mix of fuels means more than one heat source in many homes. A wood stove carries the main rooms, a propane or gas furnace covers the rest of the house and the nights, and a heat pump sometimes heats an addition.

A house that heats with a wood stove still needs its furnace when nobody is home to feed the fire or the stove cannot reach the back bedrooms. Those backup furnaces sit unused for weeks and then have to start on the coldest night, which is when a dry igniter, a stuck inducer motor or a dusty flame sensor shows up. Propane furnaces need their own burner orifices and gas valve settings, and a furnace converted between natural gas and propane has to be set up for the fuel it actually burns.

Older Cabins and New Houses Around Spirit Lake

The housing here spans many decades. About one home in eight was built before 1940, while more than half were built in 2000 or later. Old cabins and houses near the lake often have small furnaces in tight closets or crawl spaces, add-on heat pumps and ductwork that was extended more than once. Newer houses in town have the same high efficiency furnaces and condensers as Rathdrum and Post Falls.
